About interior planner

The interior planner qualification system is unique to Japan. Interior planners are professionals proficient in the knowledge and skills necessary for engaging in planning, design, and construction supervision related to interior design. The competence and skills of interior planners is examined and verified through examinations, registration, and qualification renewal training conducted by The Japan Architectural Education and Information Center. In the 2017 fiscal year, approximately 8,000 qualified interior planners actively contribute in a variety of professional settings, including interior design offices, architectural design offices, interior construction firms, and construction companies.

Burgeoning demand for architectural design services in urban environments has led to an increase in the number of issues to be resolved with respect to interior space, which is closely connected with people’s lives. For this reason, it is increasingly important for interior planners to participate in projects and apply their expertise from the initial stages of architectural design.
